R. Baker & Son Rigs Russian Space Capsule at Intrepid Video...

October 2011 - The retired Russian Space Capsule Soyuz-TMA was hoisted aboard the U.S. Intrepid in New York City by R. Baker & Son for future public display. The spacecraft was primary docked at the International Space Station and carried out educational and experimental missions. Soyuz-TMA 16 was also the first spacecraft designed for tourist passengers. Among past space tourists was Guy Laliberté, CEO of Cirque du Soleil. Soyuz-TMA 16 will be officially open to the public on November 14th in the Museum aboard the U.S. Intrepid. Opened in 1982, the Museum has welcomed more than 10 million visitors. The Museum is centered on the aircraft carrier Intrepid (CVS-11), one of the most successful ships in US history, and now a national historic landmark and one of the most unique attractions in New York City. In 1943, Intrepid was commissioned and served proudly in World War II.
