Popular Travertine Tile Flooring Available In Various Finishes
Mon, 22 Feb 2010 02:49:28 +0000So is a travertine tile flooring marble or limestone? Well, both travertine and marble belong to the larger family of stone called limestone. Marble is a type of limestone that formed as the result of additional heat and pressure applied to it by the earth’s crust, whereas travertine is a sedimentary stone which was mostly formed in ancient hot springs or geysers.
(Note: You can view and order free Travertine samples here – no shipping fees at the time of writing!)
All travertine tile flooring have pitted holes, troughs and cavities in the surface. These holes formed because of gas bubbles which were present when the stone first took shape.
When travertine floor tiles are manufactured, some types will require these cavities to be filled with matching colored cement. When you buy travertine tiles, you may have the option of purchasing “filled” or “unfilled” tiles.

Travertine tile flooring is available in a variety of colors including ivory, beige, walnut, noce, and gold. Where does the color originate? The color of this stone product is the result of iron compounds or other organic impurities.
As an example, Oasis travertine is a premium first grade travertine with a high degree of color consistency, very limited amounts of fill, with no grey or black characters allowed. Colliseo, Mina, Denizli, and Navona are high quality travertine tile flooring offering a more rustic look when compared with Oasis. These travertine tiles have more color variation, and larger filled holes are permitted (free samples here when available; no shipping fees at the time of writing).
Travertine has been popular for ages. In fact, some great historical buildings were built with “travertine marble”. The colusseum in Rome is a prime example: it is the largest building in the world constructed mostly of travertine.
These popular tiles can be bought in four major finishes, polished (shiny), honed (matte), brushed and tumbled (textured surfaces).
Honed travertine has been the most popular in the marketplace, but tumbled travertine is also very sought after for certain applications as tumbled travertine tiles give a unique “old” appearance.

When it comes to choosing a backsplash, Travertine can also be used. Kesir Tumbled Travertine flooring is a first grade line of products. The Kesir brand also comes in mosaics and in antique patterns.
As a rule, a newly tiled bathroom is a good selling-point if you are planning to put your property on the market. With Kesir Tumbled Travertine flooring, you can create a warm, classic or old-world look.
The tumbling process gives these tiles their softly rounded edges and slightly antique appearance. The textured surface is superb for creating an earthy feel. If you want something that is more shiny, rather opt for the polished line.

A benefit of a Kesir Tumbled Travertine installation is that this finish may withstand the daily spills and mishaps that often occur in bathrooms.
For use in showers, experts usually recommend a good sealer to prevent water absorption and to keep maintenance to a minimum. If properly sealed, water spots on your bathroom backsplash shouldn’t be a problem.
Always remember that porous tiles need to be wiped immediately if there is some kind of spill. This is absolutely crucial in this case, if the spill has an acid base, such as wine or fruit juice.
When purchasing your tiles, you will be given all the advice you need regarding cleaning. It is important to use the right products, as acidic lines will damage your installation. It is sensible to use a protective surface on the tiles, such as a tray or a coaster. These can hold all your beauty products or toiletries.
Travertine tiles can be used for kitchens as well, provided that you get a good sealer. It is also great for patios, as wall coverings and as countertops.
So, when you decide to design your own bathroom, you may want to keep Kesir Tumbled Travertine flooring in mind as one of your easy-to-maintain options.

Tips For DIY Laminate Floors. Install With Care And The Best Underlayment
Wed, 15 Apr 2009 14:13:31 +0000Once you have decided on laminate floors, install your planks with the greatest of care. The durability of your installation depends on this. It is worth spending some time on research to make sure that you know how to install a laminate floor correctly. Let’s take a look at some basic tips for your Kronotex Flooring or Harmonics Laminate Flooring.
Unless already attached to the planks, you need to budget for the best laminate flooring underlayment you can afford. This will give you a more comfortable walking surface and will also offer extra sound dampening. It can also help with moisture protection from the sub-floor.
Always buy more than you need. You can do section replacement later on if there is a mishap. It may be impossible to get the exact color or texture by that time. Keep a carton or two in storage.
Make sure you have detailed installation instructions from the brand manufacturer or from your supplier. This is crucial.
Although the new click-together planks are easy to install, you may still want to consider making use of the services of a contractor.
The sub-floor needs to be absolutely level, as clean as possible and dry. Test moisture levels if you are unsure.
When working with your laminate floor, don’t install the planks right up to the wall or cupboards. You need to leave a gap to allow for expansion due to changes in temperature. Your supplier will be able to advise you about the size of this gap.
Make sure that you choose a line that has a suitable AC rating. This gives an indication of the traffic your choice of flooring can handle over time.
Laminate flooring usually doesn’t do well in areas where there is excessive moisture. Check with your supplier to make sure that you are not confronted with lifting and buckling boards down the line.
Use the right kind of laminate floor cleaner afterwards. Waxed, polishes and abrasive cleaners will damage your flooring. Remember that something like a black laminate flooring installation will show dust more easily than a lighter wood color.
It is also crucial to clean any spills immediately. Any standing moisture will damage the planks.
These days, when you install laminate wood flooring, the end result can look very much like the real thing. And, as long as you install it with care, it can last up to 25 or 30 years, depending on the brand.
